Antidepressants: down with depression!

The first drugs that have received the application as a specific means of treatment for depression, appeared in the late 50-ies of the century.

In 1996 about 13 million Americans take antidepressants. And it’s 6% of the whole earth population. This figure rose to 10% (27 million) by 2005. Antidepressants now takes more than just Americans, but those who took drugs before, started getting them in large quantities. In 2008 there were 164 million prescriptions written out: all this cost patients $ 9.6 billion dollars. The researchers examined data on health surveys conducted by U.S. Agency for Health Research and Quality.

In total test, there have been involved more than 50000 people from 1996 to 2005. During this time, patients taking antidepressants were also more likely to receive antipsychotic drugs, and rarely turn to therapists. The study did not examine why this happened, however, scientists have allowed themselves to make some assumptions. Maybe society has become easier to perceive people with a diagnosis of depression. Also, many new drugs for depression became available. Thus, patients are able to buy antidepressants without prescription at online pharmacies.

Treatment with antidepressants often used to address the following issues:

  • depression, melancholy mood or irritability, aches and pains,
  • sleep or appetite problems,
  • fatigue or loss of strength,
  • difficulty concentrating or remembering,
  • loss of interest in activities that previously brought pleasure or a sense of nervousness,
    stress,
  • anxiety attacks

Antidepressants help restore the balance of chemicals in the brain. Depressed person goes as far as restoring the balance of these chemicals.
